Half Dome
Il parco si estende per circa 3000 Kmq tra le contee di Mariposa e Tuolumne sulla catena montuosa della Sierra Nevada, nello stato della California; offre ai turisti straordinarie bellezze naturali: altissime rupi,cascate spettacolari, alberi giganti e torrenti.
Yosemite National Park encompasses 1,189 square miles of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, with elevation ranging from 2,000 to 13,000 feet. Yosemite Valley is a major feature in the park, with scenery unmatched anywhere.
E' visitato ogni anno da più di tre milioni e mezzo di persone.
Lo Half Dome è una roccia granitica alta 2700m sopra il parco. Fino al 1870 era considerata una roccia impossibile da scalare, ma oggi sono molti che scalano questa roccia.
Dominating the upper end of the valley is Half Dome, a rock formation that is both striking and unique. Its summit is 4,278 feet above the valley floor and 8,842 feet above see level. Half Dome's sheer 2,000-foot cliff was was fashioned by Ice Age Glaciers, that cut away fractured rock slabs until only the great unbroken cliff remained.

MERCED RIVER
Merced River
The Merced River originates among the snowfields of the High Sierra and winds its way through this beautiful valley, as it descends more than 11,000 feet on its way to the sea.
This magnificent view of Yosemite Valley is seen from the east end of the Wawona Tunnel. At the left is El Capitan, the largest monolith of exposed granite in the world, rising 3,245 feet above the valley floor. To the right Bridalveil Fall plunges 620 feet into the Merced River; this fall runs all year long, but diminishes in the late summer.
EL CAPITAN

Il Mariposa Battalion fu costituito nel 1851 per porre termine alle incursioni degli indigeni americani. Fu così che il 27 marzo 1851 una cinquantina di uomini del Mariposa Battalion raggiunsero per la prima volta quello che oggi è chiamato Old Inspiration Point. La targa ricorda questo avvenimento.

L'inverno 2016 - 2017 ha portato tanta neve che, sciogliendosi, gonfia i corsi d'acqua. Ancora più sorprendente è la nascita di una nuova cascata che abbellisce il paesaggio.
